When we first visited the Reunion Tower it was only a couple of years old. Built in 1978 the tower is part of the Hyatt Regency complex, the hotel where we attended several professional seminars during the late seventy's and eighty's. At least on two occasions, we had dinner in the revolving top level at Antares Restaurant, which closed prior to the renovation.
I remember at
that time the rest rooms were placed in the center hub which did not
rotate. If you lingered a little too long in the rest room, you
could easily lose the location of your table, from the rotation of
the dining area, when you returned.
You could tell this was
happening often, as people would return from a different direction,
having walked all the way around the dining area. Of course laughter would
erupt from their table as they sat back down.
Wolfgang
Puck's 560 Restaurant (Asian Cuisine) now occupies the top level.
Cloud 9
Cafe is just one level below that, and the new GeoDeck is down one
more level.
At the GeoDeck you can identify what you are seeing by using the touch screens linked to digital telescopes that are lined up all along the inside center circle.
Then you can walk outside to the outer circle and enjoy the fantastic views of Dallas and the surrounding area. The GeoDeck is a very nice addition, new since we were last here.
The elevator moves you from the basement level of the Hyatt Regency to the GeoDeck in 68 seconds. It's a fast ride with windows flying by occasionally, allowing for a quick view of how far you have moved up or down since the last window.
We enjoyed our
tour of the tower. The day was a little overcast and just a bit
hazy, but we still were able to take lots of photos of the Dallas
scenes. Another good retirement day.
