Overnight at Vicksburg

Overnight stop at Vicksburg, Ms.

Sometimes when you are moving down the road to get to another destination you just want to park the motorhome, do a minimal setup and just relax and do nothing. We actually were going to do just that today at our stop in Vicksburg, Ms.

We stopped at one of the Cassino RV parks because the rates were low, and the RV park was just off I-20. It looked like just the place to kick back and recover from our day's drive.

In fact, we were already in the process of doing exactly nothing,  when somehow I remembered that Vicksburg is a very old city and has a lot of history associated with it. So I suggested to Jo that maybe we should at least drive through town and have a quick look.

Cameras in hand we set off at about 4:30 pm. At 7:00 we arrived back at the motorhome with over 100 shots between us of this fascinating city and its surroundings.

Vicksburg sits alongside the Mississippi river and indeed has a very rich history, especially from the civil war times. The city itself is a contrast between old and new. We saw some of the most interesting architecture with many of the very old buildings sitting alongside brand new modern ones.

These are some of the scenes we almost missed today.

Tomorrow it's off on down the road to Texas with another overnight in Shreveport.  Who knows, maybe instead of just sitting around tomorrow evening we can go looking around there too.  Maybe we can even find some gumbo.
